In cities and states across the country, the fossil fuel industry and its allies are fighting against responsible, clean transportation policy. Using a network of front groups, think tanks, and newly-formed coalitions, the industries who profit from inefficient and polluting automobile fleets are attacking policies intended to reduce consumption of gasoline and cutting tailpipe emissions.
The Transportation Integrity Project (TIP) seeks to expose the individuals, organizations and tactics behind these PR campaigns and lobbying efforts. These groups deploy disinformation and deceptive, misleading talking points with the goal of keeping inefficient vehicles on the road and maintaining demand for gasoline at historically high levels. This project of DeSmog is initially focused on a number of states, where attacks on policies promoting clean transportation are already underway.
